A Small Sushi Restaurant in Landlocked Hasami
That Satisfies Both Heart and Stomach

Exquisite Sushi in a Town Without Sea

Hasami Town is the only municipality in Nagasaki Prefecture without access to the ocean. Famous nationwide as a pottery production center, this town is dotted with numerous kilns where beautiful ceramics are crafted daily.

In a quiet corner of this artisan town, there’s a traditional non-conveyor belt sushi restaurant that has been beloved for generations. Its name is “Sushi Katsu.”

Let me tell you upfront: This place is absolutely incredible. Especially at night. You don’t need to read any further. Just go.

A Cozy Space Loved by Locals

But since you’re here, let me continue.

Located in a residential area slightly removed from Hasami’s town center, Sushi Katsu stands quietly, continuing the legacy from the previous generation. While tourists occasionally visit during lunch, the restaurant transforms into a cozy gathering place for local regulars at night.

The current chef, who deeply loves baseball and his family, has a wonderful smile. I highly recommend sitting at the counter to enjoy conversations with him while watching his skillful knife work.

A Blissful Experience of Seasonal Flavors

The commitment to ingredients is genuine. The chef serves the freshest seasonal seafood prepared in the best possible way.

How to Order : At first, you might feel uncertain because there are no price displays, but be brave and point to the ingredients in the showcase. The chef will prepare them using the perfect cooking method.

My Recommendations (seasonal availability)
・Seared sardine sushi
・Appetizer with sansho pepper miso
・Horse mackerel sushi
・Salt-grilled sardines
・Miso soup
・Marinated mackerel sushi
・Rolled omelet
Honestly, everything is delicious. Trust the chef’s expertise.
The local sake “Rokujuyoshu” pairs perfectly with everything!

Surprising Prices : The bill will be so reasonable it won’t make sense. You’ll want to leave a tip, but the chef won’t accept it. This is his policy, so instead, visit often, eat plenty, and share lots of laughter.

Experience Hasami's Spirit Through Sushi

Of course, all dishes are served on locally-made Hasami pottery. The entire town exudes a sense of unity—everyone working together to promote and celebrate their community.

Sushi enjoyed in this creative town offers a unique experience you won’t find elsewhere.

I hope you too can share in this happiness.
